LGDK hosted two study tours from Benin and Bhutan, they took place in November and December 2010 respectively.
The study tour from Benin took place from 8 – 12 November 2010. Benin is currently working towards a more decentralised primary school system, which includes transferring the responsibility of the primary schools from the Ministry of Education to local governments. In Denmark, the sixteen member delegation, which mainly consisted of Beninese Mayors, studied the Danish local government system and the division of roles and responsibility between central and local government within primary education.
The study tour from Bhutan visited Denmark from 6 – 10 December 2010. Bhutan is currently implementing a major local government reform as part the kingdoms transition towards democracy. With support from Denmark and UNDP the reform efforts includes establishing a full-scale local government block grant system. The delegation consisted of senior government officials and studied the Danish local government system with a particular focus on the fiscal and financial system for local governments.
