Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bhutan visits LGDK

On 13 October 2010, Hon’ble Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley, Prime Minister of Bhutan, paid a visit to the LGDK premises in Copenhagen.

The PM was accompanied by a delegation, which included H.E. Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba, Minister of Works and Human Settlement and Dasho Daw Penjo, Foreign Secretary. The delegation was hosted by Mr. Michael Ziegler, Mayor of Hoeje Taastrup and Member of the LGDK Board, and Mr. Jens Peter Christensen, LGDK International Adviser.

The visit of the Hon’ble PM and his delegation was part of a three-day visiting programme to Denmark from 13 – 15 October. This included an audience with Her Majesty, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and a meeting with the Danish Prime Minister, H.E. Lars Løkke Rasmussen. Denmark has been a major development partner of Bhutan for more than two decades and the visit to Denmark was part of this long-term partnership.

The purpose of the visit to LGDK was to get an introduction to the Danish local government system and the role of LGDK. After the visit to LGDK, the delegation was hosted by Mr. Erik Nielsen, Mayor of Roedovre Municipality and Member of the LGDK Chairmanship. In Roedovre, the delegation got a first hand introduction to a Danish Municipality and also visited one of the municipal waste recycling centres.
