The municipality of Thisted is the cleanest municipality in Denmark. More than 100% of the electricity consumption and more than 80% of the heating consumption are covered by energy produced without using fossil fuel.
Project description
The municipality of Thisted is in the process of preparing a new ambitious energy plan. The vision is that the municipality of Thisted becomes totally CO2 neutral. The headline for this effort is "We are indeed the cleanest municipality in Denmark".
The municipality of Thisted wants to maintain its status as the place in Denmark that makes the largest effort to reduce greenhouse gasses. The new energy plan should also be financially sustainable and as such contribute to creating new jobs in the municipality.
The plan is, within 5-7 years, to build a linked network consisting of all the plants producing distant heating. This will ensure heat supply in the future on a basis that is financially and environmentally sustainable.
In addition, all public buildings will be provided with energy labelling, and a new plan will be introduced for the operation of collective transport. Finally, a number of new windmills will be set up.
There are also plans to get involved in solar heat, biogas, wave energy etc. and to link the different technologies.
Financing
The town council of Thisted has allocated DKK 300,000 to make and launch a film about the cleanest municipality in Denmark.
DKK 300,000 have been allocated for the preparation of an energy plan.
An investment of DKK 160-180 million is expected over a period of 5-7 years for the realisation of the distant heating project.
It is expected that the town council in connection with the budget agreement for 2009 will set aside DKK 4 million for continued energy labelling and implementation of energy-saving measures in public buildings.
