The municipality of Middelfart aims at realizing CO2 reductions through energy-savings in private homes.
Project description
The purpose of the project is to realize political goals regarding CO2 reduction through the development of an organisational form similar to the ESCO model (Energy Saving Company). The municipality wants to establish public/private partnerships on energy-saving measures to make it attractive for private homeowners to save energy. Private homes are the society's major consumers of energy and there is a potential for significant savings and CO2 reductions. The project focuses on concrete action.
Process
A pilot project is under way. The project is based on a partnership between the municipality of Middelfart, Rockwool A/S, TRE-FOR, Energy Service Denmark, Middelfart Fjernvarme and the Bank of Middelfart, and it is ensured by the interdependence of skills and coordination of the goals of the companies.
There will be initial results, but the "first overall view" at the end of 2008 will show how the large scale project can be implemented.
Financing
The ideal financing will be made through energy-savings, but the development requires partner investments and subsidies.

A CO2 reduction of between 12 and 45 tons per year is expected in the actual pilot project in 34 houses.
