International Relations

The most important international activity in LGDK is to influence EU decisions that have an impact on local government. In the EU, many important legal acts are passed in the field of, for instance, environmental protection, public procurement and labour market. At the end of the day, it is the municipalities which have to comply with these acts.

  • LGDK's Representation in Brussels

    The primary responsibility of LGDK's representation in Brussels is to promote the interests of the Danish municipalities in the EU system. This is done by ensuring that EU legislation of relevance to the municipalities is formulated in such a way that it reflects the interests of the Danish municipalities.

  • The Committee of the Regions

    LGDK's representation in the Committee of the Regions ensures that Danish municipalities have direct influence on EU decisions. The Committee of the Regions is a review board commenting on EU initiatives that are important to the local and regional authorities.

  • Background on LGDK's International Committee

    The International Committee is one of the six standing committees in LGDK. The International Committee advises and makes recommendations to the executive board of LGDK within the following areas: Fundamental and general EU issues and other international issues. The Committee consists of nine local politicians.
