Study Tours

Study tours are a direct way to achieve a first-hand impression of the Danish experiences with and approaches to local government. Study tours can provide the participants with the following:

  • Inspiration and practical inputs on the future development of local government within their work area
  • A common framework and point of reference to understand and review the delegations specific fields of interest and responsibility
  • Dialogue and exchange of experience with Danish colleagues on the differences and similarities between the workings of local government
  • Creating a vision for the future development of local government and decentralisation
  • Contribution to strengthening the links between the participants of a delegation (team-building)

It must be emphasised that the Danish experiences cannot be copied without subsequent adaptation to local conditions. Hence, it is more the principles of local governance than the actual Danish implementation of local governments which are demonstrated during study tours.
