Management and Staff

One of the major challenges facing the municipalities today is the shortage of manpower. The reason for this shortage is that the population of young people is decreasing and more and more people reach the age of retirement. This issue dominates a lot of the activities involving management and staff.

Within management there is focus on the characteristics of good management in the municipalities and how the municipalities handle these challenges using different tools and getting innovative ideas by observing how other municipalities take on the challenges.

HR and personnel management are important building blocks in the local government organisation – both the formal and the informal framework, and LGDK is providing the municipalities with the required inspiration to formulate and implement staff policies.

The working environment in the municipalities is an important factor when it comes to improving the public sector and employee satisfaction. Employees and managers are the corner stone of local government organisations, and surveys indicate that satisfied employees provide better service to the citizens.

The purpose of LGDK's educational policy is to ensure that the municipalities have access to employees with the appropriate skills to ensure quality in task solution.

LGDK is of the opinion that management of diversity is recognition of all the large and small differences between people that distinguishes each individual. At the same time a broad approach to diversity management is very important, but without ignoring equal rights and equal treatment of women and ethnic minorities.
