The two energy action plans in the municipality of Kolding have resulted in both financial and environmental savings.
Project description
Since 1998, the municipality of Kolding has prepared two energy action plans – Energy Action Plan 1 (1998-2006) and Energy Action Plan 2 (2008-2016). These plans are based on a review of the municipal buildings and assessments of required investments within energy, water and electricity, energy control and information, and training of employees.
With this project the municipality demonstrates that strategic energy control and investments combined with employee training in energy-friendly behaviour result in both climate and cash savings.
Process
Since 1998, the municipality of Kolding has worked intensely with energy, and Energy Action Plan 2 runs until 2016.

Financed by loans.
Status and results
With Energy Action Plan 1, the municipality has saved DKK 6.3 million per year, and Energy Action Plan 2 is expected to result in further savings of DKK 2.8 million per year after 2015. All the goals for savings within electricity, water and heating have been more than fulfilled.
From 1999 to 2006, the municipality reduced CO2 emissions by 13.7%.
