The Summit was furthermore an opportunity for informal networking and discussion of future cooperation with colleagues from other countries who shared similar interests.
The programme was divided in five strands: Mitigation, Adaptation, Climate Justice and Access to Finance & Technology. Each strand contained five different sessions, from which participants could freely choose to participate in on the spot.
Some sessions were more directed at developing countries while some seemed more relevant for the industrialised countries. The programme thus broadly covered relevant subjects for local authorities from all parts of the world in relation to climate change and the negotiations at the meeting at governmental level (COP15) in December 2009. The intention was to give comprehensive recommendations to the negotiators at the COP15.
Speakers contained a mixture of national and local representatives and technical experts, and the conference was finalized with a national-local dialogue where the messages from local authorities were handed over to national leaders.
The programme and a document with descriptions of all sessions can be downloaded to the right.
The global climate changes will involve new challenges for the municipalities.
