The climate effort of the municipality of Egedal has been adopted as part of "Plan and Agenda 21 Strategy 2008". It has been decided that any kind of construction in future should be subject to Energy Efficiency Class 1 requirements. The municipality has an expansion potential of 3,000 homes and 20,000 work places. A local energy and climate policy will ensure that an already defined development takes place with the least possible environmental impact.
Process
A simple and delimited strategy will be followed. It complies with the need for political decisions and acceptance and specifically defines the efforts involved. This has proved to be a valuable element in the process.
Financing
Development of strategies and implementation in the administration have been made within the framework of existing job functions.
Status and result
5% of the citizens in Egedal are expected to live in low energy houses by the end of 2009, thereby ensuring an annual reduction of approx. 4 million kWh. Systematic energy-management with an annual investment of around DKK 5.5 million was initiated in 2008.
