Det Grønne Hus is the municipal Agenda 21 Centre in Køge. The house offers citizens, civil society associations, enterprises and institutions knowledge and means to change their impact on climate and environment.
Project
Det Grønne Hus (The Green House) creates changes in individual and corporate behaviour in relation to the environment. Therefore, solutions are found together with the parties involved to ensure ownership.
The house is based in Køge Kommune (Køge Municipality), but is an independent institution that now cover the whole of Zealand and in some cases the rest of Denmark.
Det Grønne Hus operates on a very broad field of activity including waste management, energy-savings and environmentally efficient transport and construction.
Det Grønne Hus is also a part of Energy Service Denmark, which offers advice on energy-saving and renewable energy to citizens, schools and small businesses.
Køge Kommune is still a very important partner and target activities of Det Grønne Hus can complement the municipal duties. In this regard, Det Grønne Hus can often provide solutions that would be impossible to implement by the municipality alone.

Process
Det Grønne Hus was established in 1997 by Køge Kommune, The Agenda 21 Committee and a number of active citizens. Det Grønne Hus is free to determine how to act and advise the citizens and is run by a board of 9 members from the Municipal Council, local associations and user representatives.
Financing
When Det Grønne Hus was established, it was with 100% municipal funding. The house has since been engaged in attracting additional funding in order to recruit a wide range of professionals. In 2008 the house had 12 employees and was only 25% financed by the municipality, the remainder coming from consultancies, foundations, government project funds, etc.
