Municipalities work together to optimize the district heating in North Jutland.
Project description
The purpose of the project is to map possible optimisation of the district heating system in North Jutland in terms of distribution and production through network activities and four design projects in Thisted, Jammerbugt, Brønderslev and Aalborg with a view to the following:
-
To expand and develop skills within research, education, consulting services and at manufacturers and suppliers in North Jutland concerning collective heat supply
-
To use renewable energy sources/alternative local energy sources with a view to phasing out fossil fuels to limit the CO2 emission
-
To develop models/methodologies and software to optimise energy utilisation
-
To make design projects suitable for export
-
To communicate knowledge and results of projects.
Process
Establishment of a network including 150-200 participants by the middle of 2009 has been initiated. In addition, a Steering Committee has been established consisting of the partners involved in the project.
In connection with preparation of the design projects a reference group will be established consisting of the consulting enterprises that the companies have selected to help concretize examples of the models.
In addition, the process of involving the 45 heating plants that will be affected by the project will be monitored.
Financing
The project – which should be completed by the end of 2012 – will be financed partly through an anticipated grant from EU's Structural Funds via the Growth Forum in North Jutland (50%), partly through cash contributions and working hours contributed by Aalborg Samarbejdet, the Departments of Energy Technology and Social Development and Planning and the participating plants.
The budget amounts to a total of DKK 11.2 million.
Status and result
The project is in its initial phase – i.e. establishment of a secretariat, establishment of a network, meetings with district heating plants and municipalities, planning of newsletters/theme meetings/conferences, etc.
The first meetings of the Steering Committee have already taken place, and schedules and action plans – both short term and long term – are currently being discussed.
Demonstration
At the present time, there are no actual places to visit except the objects of the four design projects, namely the heating plants in question – Thisted Varmeforsyning, Fjerritslev Varmeværk, Brønderslev Varmeforsyning and Aalborg Kommune/Fjernvarmeforsyningen.
During the last part of the project period – after completion of a number of tests at Aalborg University – it may be possible to point out a few concrete models to be realized.
