The municipality of Herning wants to develop and promote hydrogen technology.
Project description
The municipality of Herning has entered into collaboration with HIRC (Hydrogen Innovation & Research Centre) in order to initiate a number of local hydrogen activities.
The aim of the projects is to promote hydrogen technology locally, nationally and internationally. The municipality wants to demonstrate how hydrogen as a source of energy can lead to a new energy system exclusively based on renewable energy.
Process
The municipality will initiate local hydrogen activities on an ongoing basis and coordinate the cooperation between hydrogen research, hydrogen industry and the municipality. One of the more important visions is the world's first hydrogen city, H2PIA.
Financing
The projects are financed by the municipality, the region and the state and through EU subsidies. In addition, local enterprises have made contributions.
Status and results
The municipality of Herning has invested in concrete projects such as hydrogen houses (e.g. a hydrogen college), hydrogen cars, hydrogen gas stations, hydrogen trucks and hydrogen trains. The projects are already showing how future technology can contribute to reducing our CO2 emission.
