The Climate Summit Was Climate-Friendly

The Summit made it a virtue to be as climate-friendly as possible. Bella Center, the venue of the Summit, is therefore one of the leading conference centers in terms of climate awareness, and transport of guests was made with a minimum of CO2 emission.

The organizers of the Local Government Climate Change Leadership Summit did, in accordance with the main purpose of the Summit, their best to come up with as many climate-friendly initiatives as possible. Bella Center was just one of the contributions in this respect.

Over the years, Bella Center has aimed at reducing their CO2 emission. Last year they entered into an agreement to reduce their CO2 emission by 20 per cent compared to 2008.

This means that Bella Center has modernized the ventilation and cooling system in the building. On a yearly basis, this will reduce the emission from Bella Center by approximately 1200 tons of CO2. This corresponds to the emission of a normal car if you drive 7 million km (4.66 million miles).

Furthermore, to be in tune with the Climate Summit, a 75 m high Vestas Windmill has been set in motion in front of Bella Center to produce power. The impressive wind turbine produces more then 1.6 million kW/h per year, which is sufficient power to supply approximately 300 Danish households for an entire year.

In the front hall of the Conference Center, Vestas has set up a measuring station that continually shows how much power wind turbines in Denmark produce.

In Copenhagen, requirements regarding busses are very strict. Particulate filters are necessary to meet the standards for normal bus transport in Copenhagen. According to EU standards (from Euro-0 to Euro-5), the CO2 emission from busses in Copenhagen should be lower than the Euro-3 level.

These were just some of the initiatives. It was important for the organizers that the Summit lived up to the same goals and standards as the Summit was trying to provide for the climate solutions.
