Lolland Municipality – Alga Innovation

The project focuses on climate adjustment, coastal protection, development of green technology, a cleaner sea environment and algae cultivation. The purpose is to show how cultivation of algae can clean surface and waste water, reduce CO2 emission from district heating stations and contribute to biomass production through refining of liquid manure. The project will be carried out in collaboration with researchers from three universities, and in connection with the opening of Onsevig Klimapark an international alga conference will be held.

Process
The first phase of the project has been the establishment of Onsevig Klimapark in connection with three dikes on the north coast of Lolland.

The project will be carried out in cooperation with local farmers, Lolland Forsyning, Baltic Sea Solutions, Green Centre and researchers from Universities in Denmark and in Germany.

Financing
Onsevig Klimapark is financed through the EU Regional Fund with a grant of DKK 7.2 million. In addition, applications have been made for financing of the algae cultivation through Lolland Forsyning and the energy company of the municipality of Lolland called LOKE. Cultivation of algae in liquid manure plants is financed by the local farmers.

Presentation
The project will be presented to national and international delegations in connection to the UN Climate Conference in December 2009. Presentations can be made in Danish, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Japanese.
