The project will show how existing villages can be transformed into energy villages where holistic efforts will make sustainable consumption and energy supply, important factors in the every day life of citizens. The project will demonstrate sustainable solutions both in private homes and in the public sphere. The core of the project is local climate agreements between citizens and the municipality covering a broad range of initiatives such as building improvement, daily energy consumption, transport, water, waste, power supply and other measures that reduce energy consumption.
Process
The projects are divided into phases. In the first half of 2009, efforts will focus on energy mapping and analysis where the energy consumption of the citizens and other players are mapped. In the autumn of 2009 until 2010 the energy solutions will be implemented.
Financing
The preliminary budget amounts to DKK 10 million. Realdania, a partner in the project, will finance 50% of this amount and the municipality of Lolland the remaining 50%. However, the municipality of Lolland will apply for financial support to cover their share.
Partners
Citizen involvement is a central element in the project. In addition, attempts are made to establish cooperation with relevant companies.
Status and results
Currently, we are about to embark on the comprehensive energy mapping which will be the basis for the effort.
The expected result of the project is establishment of the village Horslunde as a prototype for how already existing villages may aim for energy savings at citizen level.
Presentation
During the summer of 2009, the municipality will present startup projects. A visit to Horslunde can be planned in connection to visits to other climate and energy initiatives in the municipality of Lolland. Presentations can be made in Danish, English and Spanish.
