Clean Tech Valley

Under the heading Clean Tech Valley, the municipality of Vejle is involved in a broad climate strategy and many interesting sub-projects.

Project description
The municipality of Vejle wants a comprehensive effort within sustainable development and growth with focus on household waste, sustainable local government buildings, afforestation, agriculture, sewerage and "sustainable" education of school children. The municipality has a broad climate strategy for adjustment and CO2 reduction and sub-projects such as increased private afforestation and risk assessment and climate adjustment in a city on the fjord in East Jutland. The latter may result in a cooking book to be used by cities in a similar situation.

Clean Tech Valley will demonstrate new types of close collaboration between private businesses and the municipality and knowledge sharing between research, advisors and the public administration. The aim of the project is to generate innovation and new technologies to benefit trade and industry, promote exports, and put the municipality of Vejle on the world map.

Process
The project was started in continuation of a sustainability conference in August 2007 with approx. 200 participants from trade, industry and organisations, including advisors, public officials and politicians who generated ideas for a more sustainable development and growth in the municipality.

Clean Tech Valley is the responsibility of the Network and Knowledge Centre for Nature, Environment and Sustainable Development in Vejle (NVC Vejle).

Financing
The development of Clean Tech Valley is financed by the municipality of Vejle, and the individual projects are funded in various ways, including cooperation with the private sector.

Status and results
In 2009, the municipality of Vejle in collaboration with a number of other municipalities in the area want to demonstrate a number of climate projects in connection with the UN Climate Conference. However, the majority of the local government objectives are long-term to be completed by 2025. Afforestation alone is estimated to contribute to a CO2 reduction of 4 tons per inhabitant.

Business partners
The municipality of Vejle cooperates with a number of companies within for example passive house construction and sustainable municipal building administration.

Presentation
The municipality can present:

  • A knowledge centre for passive housing construction

  • Sustainable municipal building administration

  • Flexible afforestation (CO2 reduction)

  • Sustainable villages

  • Climate adjustment strategies

  • Sustainable education
